Un po' più verde / A bit greener

So che dovrei trascurare meno questo blog, prometto che in futuro non sarà così, ma ora vi racconto dell'ultima fatica: ho scritto un libro per bambini che insegna l'ecologia attraverso un racconto e alcuni giochi e quiz che coinvolgono i rifiuti domestici. I know i should not disregard this blog, I promise it won't be this way on, but now I tell you about my last work: I wrote a book for children to teach them ecology through a story and some quiz involving garbage. Di ritorno dal Giappone / Back from Japan

Eccomi qui, sono tornato dall'estremo oriente e già mi sento triste. Il Giappone è un posto meraviglioso e ho trovato molti amici e colleghi fantastici. Lavorare lì è dura, sia per gli orari che per la lingua, ma per fortuna stavo con persone che parlano bene inglese o italiano. Ho mangiato benissimo e ho speso poco. Ho fatto tanto shopping e anche un po' il turista dato che la vita costa molto meno che da noi, grazie all'euro forte. Sinceramente non vedo l'ora di tornarci dato che appena arrivato a Milano mi sono sentito nel terzo mondo: non ci crederete ma Tokyo è molto più pulita, meno inquinata e con più aree verdi! E la Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution costa solo 18,000 euro!

Here I am, back from the Far East and I'm already sad. Japan is an amazing place and I found a lot of friends and very nice collegues. Working there it's hard due to the language and to the working daytime longer than in Europe, but fortunately I stayed with Italian or English speaking guys. I loved the food and found out that it's cheap too. I had a lot of shopping and I've been a tourist for a bit too thanks to the high Euro value on the Yen. Sincerely I can't wait to come back there because as soon as I came in Milan I felt like I was in the Third World: Tokyo, hard to believe but true, is cleaner, less pulluted and has more green areas than Milan! And the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is out for just 18,000 euro!

Musica e fumetti / Music and comics

xnote, produttore di una rock band italiana che pubblica dischi anche all'estero mi ha commissionato un fumetto da allegare al booklet del cd di prossima uscita. Dei disegni si occuperà il mio ottimo partner in crime Davide Rossetti. Ragazzo di grande talento con cui lavoro già da due anni a progetti televisivi e grafici per la tv, soprattutto cartoni animati e spot pubblicitari. La vera novità è che il cd contenente il nostro fumetto (un numero autoconclusivo da cui, forse, verrà tratta una miniserie) sarà pubblicato in Italia, Francia, Spagna, Germania, Gran Bretagna e Stati Uniti.

xnote, manager company of an Italian rock band that sells records overseas, asked me to write a comics about the band, to be printed on the upcoming cd booklet. My partner in crime will be the talented graphic designer Davide Rossetti, a friend that has been working with me for two years now, specially in making cartoons, commercials for tv and storyboards. The real great thing is that the cd with our comic (a pilot that, we hope, will be followed by a miniseries) will be released in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, UK and USA.

Frangetta / Italy Is Burning

Ancora cartoni animati / Cartoons again

Sono stato ingaggiato da una casa di produzione di Milano con sedi anche all'estero per la realizzazione di due serie animate: una rivolta ad un pubblico pre-school, l'altra orientata verso un target teen. Entrambi i progetti prevedono, inoltre, la realizzazione su licenza di gadgets, giocattoli e merchandising vario.
Dopo un periodo di due mesi di preproduzione durante il quale ho lavorato quasi da solo, ho avuto un piacevolissimo incontro con tutto lo staff creativo che darà vita alle mie sceneggiature davanti all'ottimo sushi del miglior ristorante giapponese di Milano.
La squadra mi piace e abbiamo trovato un'intesa fantastica. Spero solo di finire il grosso del lavoro prima del mio imminente viaggio in Giappone.

I've been hired by a media production company in Milan, with abroad divisions, to produce two animated serials: the first one for pre-school audience, the latter dedicated to a teen target. Both shows will be associated with a gadgets, toys and merchandising licensing.
After a starting period working with just the producer, i met the whole creative staff that will bring to life my scripts for a great dinner at the best japanese restaurant in Milan.
I like the team, there are good vibrations between us. I just hope to finish most of my duties before leaving for Japan next August.

Mi chiamo Andrea Ballan, vivo a Varese e lavoro a Milano come autore tv e sceneggiatore, anche freelance, sono specializzato in produzioni per l'infanzia, ho in curriculum diverse serie a cartoni animati pre-school per Nickelodeon, Raisat e Comedy Central. Dopo il liceo classico mi sono laureato in Scienze Umanistiche per la Comunicazione all'Università degli Studi di Milano con una tesi dal titolo "Il cartone animato nella pubblicità italiana" relatore Enrico Lehmann, nel frattempo lavoravo già a Radio Lupo Solitario come speaker, regista, autore di programmi e spot pubblicitari. Sono stato copywriter presso alcune agenzie di pubblicità. Scrivo fumetti da cirda quattro anni, assistito -nel senso che mi tiene d'occhio- dal grande Michele Medda, creatore di Nathan Never e autore di Dylan Dog e Nick Raider. Sono chitarrista e cintura nera di kung fu, disciplina che ho praticato per circa quindici anni.

My name's Andrea Ballan, I live in Varese and I work in Milan, Italy. I'm a scriptwriter and a tv author, I work as a freelance too. I'm specialized in creating kid's tv shows, pre-school and teen cartoons. I wrote animated series for Nickelodeon, RAI (Italian State Television) and Comedy Central. I gradueted in Communication Sciences at Milano State University with a thesis on "Cartoons in Italian advertising" with teacher and former author Enrico Lehmann. I've been working since 1999 as dj, speaker and author of radio broadcasting shows and advertising. I've been a copywriter for a couple of small adv companies. I've been a graphic novels scriptwriter for 4 years thanks to the help and advice of the Italian best selling scriptwriter Michele Medda, former creator of Nathan Never and writer for Dylan Dog and Nick Raider comics (some of the most famous heroes in the Italian comics scene). I used to be a guitar player and a kung fu fighter too.
